Life in east-central Enoch and Neighborhood highlights

Life in east-central Enoch

What a day in east-central Enoch looks like

In shortThe homes are single-family ramblers and two-story plans on lots of about a quarter acre, and the landscaping is still young. The I-15 ramp at Exit 62 is about six minutes away, and the Three Peaks trails are roughly 20 minutes west.

Morning starts with first light on the Markagunt Plateau to the east, across the open Cedar Valley. The streets are quiet and flat enough for an easy loop before work. Enoch Elementary is a couple of minutes away, and City Hall is about three.

Midday is the part that surprises people, because everything stays close. The Minersville Highway puts you on I-15 at Exit 62 in about six minutes. Downtown Cedar City, with big-box shopping and Main Street, is roughly 12 minutes south. Lin's Fresh Market Enoch is about five minutes away, so you do not lose twenty minutes every time you forget milk.

Evenings come early in winter and stay late in summer, the way they do in the high desert. Bikes roll through the cul-de-sacs. The street trees are still young, and the Three Peaks skyline turns gold to the west. That is small-town Enoch.

Neighborhood highlights

Close by, all within minutes

Enoch city parks

The city parks are a short drive away. They have a playground, a covered pavilion and ball fields, with open grass for a pickup game or an evening walk. It is green space you end up using on a weeknight, not just for big events.

The Enoch civic center

The Enoch City offices are about three minutes away. The council meetings, the permit counter and the people who run the town are a short drive from the front door.

Three Peaks Recreation Area

Public land run by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), about 20 minutes west. It has trails for hiking, mountain biking and off-highway vehicle (OHV) riding, plus disc golf and dispersed camping. It is the main outdoor spot on this side of the valley. The full story is in the trails section below.

Newer homes, young trees

The neighborhood went in from 2020 to 2023, so the homes and their systems are new or nearly new. The yards and street trees are still young, so plan to plant for shade.

Enoch Recreation Complex

Enoch's recreation complex, on the east edge of town, is about four minutes away by car, so practice fields and community sports stay in town. It is an easy stop for a game or a workout without driving into Cedar City.

Quick I-15 and town access

The Minersville Highway leads to I-15 at Exit 62 in about six minutes. Downtown Cedar City, with big-box shopping, fuel and movie screens, is roughly 12 minutes south. Details are in the errands table.

The homes and the land

Homes & lots and Trails & outdoors

Homes & lots

Built one lot at a time

Homes here went up from 2020 to 2023, in four phases. Settlers Square is a newer subdivision of about 148 single-family lots: mostly ramblers (one-story homes) and two-story plans on lots of about a quarter acre. The landscaping is still young, and the neighborhood has a new feel.

The lots sit on flat ground, and attached two-car garages are the norm. The homes went up in four phases, so square footage and finishes change from one street to the next. Builder options and upgrades can change how a home feels quite a bit. If a certain street, layout or yard size matters to you, tell me early.

In a neighborhood this size, two homes on the same street can feel very different, depending on how well each one has been kept up.

One tip from more than 20 years living in Southern Utah: check which way the driveway faces. South-facing concrete clears itself between storms, while a shaded north-facing driveway holds ice and snow longer. It is a small thing, but worth knowing before you fall in love with a floor plan.

Building since 2020 to 2023
Homes in Settlers Square About 150
Common styles Ramblers, split-level, two-story
Lot sizes About a quarter acre
Garage typical 2-car attached
Recent sale range Mid $300,000s to mid $500,000s Iron County MLS

Trails & outdoors

Open country a short drive away

Three Peaks Recreation Area is the main outdoor spot on this side of Enoch, on BLM land about 20 minutes west of Settlers Square. It has trails for hiking, mountain biking, OHV riding and rock crawling. There is also disc golf and dispersed camping, which means camping outside a campground. You can be on a trail before the morning heats up, and the three peaks stand out to the west on a clear day.

Trails and tracks

Marked routes for hiking, trail running and mountain biking wind through pinyon-juniper and open desert, and there are OHV and rock-crawling areas for motorized use.

Disc golf and camping

A disc golf course is laid out across the desert terrain. Dispersed BLM camping is there too if you want to make a weekend of it instead of a morning.

Year-round desert

At valley-floor elevation the area stays usable most of the year. Summer mornings are cooler, and locals get out between storms through the winter.

Trail facts: BLM Three Peaks Recreation Area pages. The wider outdoor picture, Cedar Breaks and Brian Head included, is in the Enoch guide.

Daily life

Errands & drive times and Schools & education

Errands & drive times

Errands, measured in minutes

The I-15 ramp at Exit 62 is about six minutes away, and most of Cedar City's shopping and services are about 12 minutes south. Lin's Fresh Market Enoch is about five minutes away. Times are estimated, measured from the neighborhood.

Because I-15 is a few minutes away, longer drives start on the freeway instead of in town traffic. Brian Head's ski runs are about 40 minutes, St. George is about an hour, and Zion is about an hour and ten minutes. The full day-trip map lives in the Enoch guide.

Schools & education

Schools, by the facts

Settlers Square is served by the Iron County School District. Enoch Elementary is the closest elementary school, just a couple of minutes away in town. Older students go to schools in nearby Cedar City, about ten to twelve minutes south. The district can change which schools serve which streets, so ask the district which schools serve any home you are serious about. For outside school data, GreatSchools and Niche both publish numbers you can weigh yourself.

I cover the bigger education picture, including SUU, in the Enoch guide.

What locals know

Notes from east-central Enoch

No listing photo tells you this part. After more than 20 years living in Southern Utah, here is what I would tell a friend.

You watch the weather arrive

Storms cross the valley from west to east. With open ground toward Three Peaks, you often see them coming across town well before the first drops land on your patio.

Evening is the show

The Markagunt Plateau east of town holds the last light after the sun is already down in the valley. A back patio that faces east is a good place to watch it.

The high desert cuts both ways

At about 5,500 feet, summer evenings cool off nicely after a hot afternoon. Winters bring real snow, though, so a driveway you can keep clear matters more than you might expect if you are used to a warmer state.

The park is the front porch

Summer evenings fill the nearby city park with ball games and picnic tables. By late fall it quiets down, and on a clear winter day it is just you and the open valley.
