Moving to Santa Clara, Utah

Santa Clara is a small city on the Santa Clara River, between St. George and Ivins. The old town sits at about 2,740 feet. The higher ground north of it, along Pioneer Parkway, reaches about 2,900 feet. Downtown St. George is about 10 minutes east, and Ivins is about 10 minutes west.

Jacob Hamblin and ten families settled on the river in 1854. They built Fort Clara in 1856. The great flood of 1862 destroyed it, after rain fell for about 44 days starting on Christmas Eve 1861. Fifteen Swiss families arrived in 1861 to grow cotton. They turned to grapes and fruit instead, and the town became known for its orchards. The Hamblin Home was built in 1863, and Santa Clara became a town in 1915.

Santa Clara Drive was once the road to Las Vegas. In 1973 Interstate 15 opened through the Virgin River Gorge, and the traffic moved to the freeway. That bypassed the town and left the old main street much as it was. Today you can still walk past pioneer buildings and under old sycamore trees.

Growth has come fast anyway. About 6,000 people lived here in 2010, 7,553 in 2020, and about 8,700 in 2025. The city plans for about 16,000 by 2050. The city says only 239 acres of true greenfield land were left in August 2025. Greenfield means land that has never been built on.

The town runs its own electric company, and the river reserve starts at the edge of town. Most big errands go to St. George. The trade-offs are a hot summer, little open land, and no hospital in town. The rest of this page covers both sides.

Santa Clara sits at the edge of the Mojave Desert. That gives it a long, hot summer and a mild, sunny winter. People come for the winters and learn to plan around the summers.

Santa Clara has no weather station with long-term normals. The numbers here come from the St. George station, about 2 miles away. It has kept records since 1893. Normals are 30 year averages, and these cover 1991 to 2020.

Rain is rare. The station logs about 9 inches of rain and melted snow in a normal year. June is the driest month, with less than a fifth of an inch. February is the wettest, with about 1.4 inches.

Frost is mild and short. The last spring freeze usually comes around March 14, and the first fall freeze around November 10. A normal year has about 62 nights at freezing or colder, and 52 of them fall from December through February.

Snow is rare in Santa Clara. The St. George station logs about 1.2 inches in a normal year. In most years it does not snow measurably at all. When it does, it melts fast. A snowfall of a tenth of an inch or more happens on fewer than one day a year.

The last big snow came in February 2019, when 7.8 inches fell over five days. Two smaller ones came in February 2015 (2.7 inches) and March 2021 (2.5 inches). Winters like those are the exception. Normal snow only shows up in January, February, and March.

If you want real snow, you drive up. Cedar City is about an hour away and gets far more snow than the desert. Brian Head Resort, about 1 hour 35 minutes away, has the nearest ski lifts. The ski topic below has the details.

Summer here is hot, and it is long. A normal July afternoon reaches about 102°F. The normals show about 63 days a year at 100°F or hotter, and about 128 days at 90°F or hotter. Your first July here will change what you think "hot" means.

The record is 117°F. It was set at the St. George station on July 5, 1985, and tied in July 2021. That is the highest temperature ever measured in Utah. The 2026 summer ran hot too. By September 13 of that year, the station had logged 78 days at 100°F or hotter, and its hottest reading was 112°F on August 2.

You learn to live early and late. Walk, ride, and water the yard in the morning or after sunset. Let the house handle the middle of the day. The river reserve trails are best at dawn in summer.

The summer storm season has its own risk. The National Weather Service counts June 15 to September 30 as monsoon season in the Southwest. Near St. George, the storms come mostly in July and August. The airport reports thunder on about 8 days in each of those months. Dry washes can fill in minutes, and streets can flood. In August 2020, a storm flooded streets across St. George and closed Red Hills Parkway overnight.

Santa Clara has no wind station of its own. The nearest one is at St. George Regional Airport, where the wind averages 6.1 miles an hour over the year. The airport is about 30 minutes from town by car, so treat its numbers as a guide. The figure comes from about 115,900 hourly readings between 2012 and 2025. Cedar City airport, on the same count, averages 7.4.

Spring and summer are the windy seasons, tied at 7.6 miles an hour. Fall averages 5.1 and winter 4.2. May and June are the windiest months at 8.4. December is the calmest at 3.5.

Strong gusts are not common. Gusts of 30 miles an hour or more show up in about 3 or 4 hours out of every 100 in spring. In winter it is less than 1 hour in 100. Calm air is common in the cooler months. In winter, about 4 hours in 10 are dead calm.

An inversion is when cold air gets trapped in a valley under a lid of warmer air, and smog builds up for days. The Salt Lake and Utah valleys are known for them in winter. Santa Clara does not have that problem. The record shows almost none. In the six winters from 2020 to 2026, fine particles of soot and smoke pushed county air past the good range on only 8 days.

Washington County is also not on the EPA list of Utah counties that fail, or once failed, a federal air standard. That list names nine counties, and Washington is not one of them. The county is also outside the state's mandatory no-burn rule for winter smog days. That rule covers seven counties in northern Utah.

Ozone is the main pollutant. It is a gas that forms in strong sunlight, and it sets the daily reading on most days of the year. It pushed the county past 50 on 59 to 89 days a year from 2020 to 2025. Summer and fall can bring a few hazy days, most likely from wildfire smoke. Fine particles pushed the reading past 50 on 27 summer and fall days in 2020. In 2023 and 2024, that happened on just 1 day each.

One thing to know about the numbers. The county has two air monitors, in Hurricane and in Zion Canyon. The last monitor in the St. George area stood in Santa Clara, and it closed in September 2012. So these readings describe Washington County air, not a single street in town.

Housing is the big cost in Santa Clara. The Census puts the typical home value here above St. George and below Ivins. Everyday costs are close to the rest of the region. Utah keeps property taxes low, and the state charges one flat income tax. So the price of the home is the number to plan around.

Whether your costs go down depends on where you are coming from. Coming from coastal California or Nevada, most people find the housing dollar goes further here, while day-to-day costs feel familiar. Ask me for current numbers and a side by side with where you live now.

Three taxes matter most when you move here: sales tax, state income tax, and property tax. Here is each one in plain terms, with the rate in effect as I write this.

The primary home exemption

Utah gives a tax break to the home you live in. A primary home is taxed on 55% of its market value, not the full value. To get it, you must live in the home at least 183 days in a row each year. The break covers the house and up to one acre of land. Second homes are taxed on their full value.

Washington County already asks you to apply. The county says the owner must apply to get the break. You can apply online on the county assessor's page, or call (435) 301-7020. From January 1, 2027, state law makes this the rule across Utah whenever a home changes owners.

Your property tax bill has several parts. The county, the school district, the city, and special districts each take a share, and the school district takes the biggest one. Your tax notice shows each part.

Car fees and tests

Utah does not tax your car as property. Instead, you pay an age-based fee each year when you register it. The fee is below for 2026, for cars, light trucks, SUVs, and vans. Registration fees come on top. Washington County has no emissions test. A car that is new to Utah needs a quick VIN check.

The glance box at the top of this page shows the latest median sale price for a single-family home, from my Santa Clara market report. Santa Clara is a small market, and only a handful of homes sell in a given month. That makes the monthly numbers swing a lot, so ask me for the latest.

The town is nearly out of open land, as the overview above explains. Ivins, St. George, and the BLM river reserve box the town in. The city adds about 135 homes a year, so the supply grows slowly.

Owners live in about 8 in 10 homes. About 77 percent of homes are detached houses, and 13 percent are attached, like townhomes. About 36 percent were built since 2010, and about 60 percent since 2000. About 7 percent are second homes, used part of the year. Those are Census estimates for 2020 to 2024.

Nightly rentals follow a firm rule. The city code does not allow them in ordinary neighborhoods. They need a city permit, in a planned development zoned for them or in the historic district and mixed-use zone. Paradise Village at Zion and Arcadia Vacation Resort are the nightly-rental communities. Check the zone for the exact home before you count on rental income.

More areas are worth a look, from north to south. On the north side are Deserts Edge, Solace at Santa Clara, and Ocotillo Springs. On the hill are Heights West, Arrowhead Mesa, View Pointe, and Red Mountain View Estates. On the east edge, by Lava Flow Drive, are Point at Snow Canyon and Snow Canyon Estates. In the old town are Swiss Village Townhomes and Summerwood Estates. In the southeast, by Arrowhead Elementary, are Swiss Haven Estates and Arrowhead Estates.

New homes in Santa Clara are real but limited, because the town has little open land left. Most building is on the north side and in the Hills at Santa Clara, south of the river. Builders and phases change often, so the listings page is the fastest way to see what is open today.

The newest sales are at Vera, by Cole West. Sales began in September 2026. It has 80 homes, mostly townhomes, just east of Harmons. Solace, by New Wave Construction, lists its Phase 3 as open. Pioneer Pointe plans 133 homes on about 18 acres, and Deserts Edge plans 240 units, including townhomes and two apartment phases. Both are on the north side. The last lots in the Hills at Santa Clara are also being built on.

Part of Black Desert is inside Santa Clara, too. About 298 of its 600 acres and 11 of its golf holes sit in the city, in the Silver Reef and South Village areas.

The long game is the South Hills, south of the river. The Edge at Grand Desert planning area covers 83 acres under a 2018 agreement, and nothing is built there. The wider South Hills holds about 240 private acres and about 1,440 acres of BLM land, which is federal land. Steep slopes and distance from roads and utilities slow any building. Nobody should buy today on that timeline.

Buying new works differently from buying resale. You pick a lot, choose your finishes, follow a build schedule, and sign the builder's contract. I walk you through each step, so the loan lines up with the build schedule and nothing surprises you once the walls go up. Builders often cover the buyer agent fee, and I put that in writing before you sign.

Every town has its own list of things to check. Santa Clara has a few that come from its river and its desert ground. None of them should scare you off. They are the questions I would ask about any home here, and each one has a free tool you can use for a single address.

I will walk through each of these with you on any home you like, and I will tell you what I see. The river and the 2005 flood have their own story on The Local.

The best thing you can do before you shop for a home is get pre-approved. That means a lender checks your finances and tells you how much you can borrow. It shows you what you can spend, and it makes your offer stronger when the right home comes up. Santa Clara is a small market, so a ready buyer has an edge. That head start matters most if you are moving from out of town and want to act fast.

Buyers in Santa Clara use every kind of loan, including conventional, FHA, and VA. Vacation-zone homes at Paradise Village and Arcadia follow different loan rules than a home you live in. Homes near the river can add flood insurance to the budget. Sort these out early. If I am your lender, I can tell you early if a home could be hard to get a loan on. The city's own plan says Santa Clara operates largely as a bedroom community. A bedroom community is a town where most people sleep and live, and work somewhere else. Most residents drive to jobs outside town.

In 2023, the city counted 3,284 residents who worked outside town. Only 194 lived and worked in town, and 1,235 workers came in from elsewhere. The average commute is about 20 minutes. The census survey for 2020 to 2024 says about 1 in 10 workers works from home. About 9 in 10 get to work in under 30 minutes. Those are survey estimates, so treat them as a guide.

Jobs inside Santa Clara

Workplaces in town include the city itself, which runs its own power utility, and the schools. Harmons and the shops around it employ people too, along with Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue. Black Desert Resort is next door in Ivins, but 298 of its 600 acres, and 11 of its golf holes, are inside Santa Clara. The city lists construction, retail, health care, and hospitality as its leading kinds of work.

The business areas are small. One sits on Pioneer Parkway at Red Mountain Drive and Rachel Drive, around Harmons. Another is on Santa Clara Drive at Canyon View Drive. If you want a job close to home, expect to look in St. George.

The wider job market

Washington County had about 89,800 jobs in 2025, up from about 70,600 in 2020. That is a rise of about 27%. The jobless rate for the St. George area was 3.8% in August 2026, which is a preliminary number. Average yearly pay in the county was about $50,900 in 2025. Big employers in the county include the Washington County School District, SkyWest Airlines, and Utah Tech University.

Santa Clara does not have a hospital or an emergency room. St. George Regional Hospital is about 15 minutes away. It is part of Intermountain Health, and it has 284 beds and an emergency room that is open all day, every day. It is also a Level II trauma center, which means surgeons and other specialists are ready for badly hurt patients. It is the only Level II center south of Utah County.

Urgent care is close. Intermountain Sunset Clinic InstaCare is at 1739 West Sunset Boulevard in St. George, about 5 minutes from City Hall. Its phone number is 435-634-6050. Most clinics and doctor offices are near it, on the west side of St. George.

Fire and ambulance service come from Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue. It is one department with two stations. Station 31 is at 2365 Rachel Drive in Santa Clara, and the other is on Center Street in Ivins. Police service comes from the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department, which the two cities formed in 2012.

The Washington County School District runs the public schools in Santa Clara. The district counted 34,396 students on October 1, 2025. That includes 3,305 students in its Utah Online School. It has 27 elementary schools, 6 intermediate schools, 6 middle schools, and 10 high schools. In 2025 to 2026, elementary runs from kindergarten to grade 5. Intermediate is grades 6 and 7, middle school is grades 8 and 9, and high school is grades 10 to 12.

Three district schools sit inside the city. Santa Clara Elementary is at 2950 Crestview Drive, and Arrowhead Elementary is at 545 Arrowhead Trail. Lava Ridge Intermediate, for grades 6 and 7, is at 2425 Rachel Drive. After that, students go to Snow Canyon Middle and Snow Canyon High, both in St. George.

Which elementary school you get depends on the street. On the district maps, the north side of town, north of Pioneer Parkway, falls in Red Mountain Elementary in Ivins. That includes Bella Sol, Blackhawk, Deserts Edge, Ocotillo Springs, Pioneer Pointe, Point at Snow Canyon, Solace, and the Santa Clara side of Black Desert.

The old town and the hill fall in Santa Clara Elementary. That includes Santa Clara Heights, Heights West, Village on the Heights, Arrowhead Mesa, and View Pointe. It also includes Red Mountain View Estates, Summerwood Estates, Swiss Village, Snow Canyon Estates, and the Hills at Santa Clara. The southeast, with Heritage Pointe, Swiss Haven Estates, Arrowhead Estates, and the Vineyards, falls in Arrowhead Elementary. The city's plan also names Coral Cliffs Elementary in St. George for some residents. Every community on the maps feeds Lava Ridge Intermediate, Snow Canyon Middle, and Snow Canyon High.

Nearby public charter schools include Vista School in Ivins, which teaches kindergarten to grade 9. A charter school is a public school that runs on its own board and takes students by application. George Washington Academy and Success Academy at Utah Tech are in St. George. Tuacahn High School for the Arts in Ivins closed in May 2021. Check each school's own site for how to apply.

I do not rate schools, and I would be wary of anyone who tells you which one is best. Look at the boundaries, programs, and ratings yourself, with what matters to you in mind. The links below go to the district and to independent sites.

Santa Clara is not a college town, but college is close. Utah Tech University is in St. George, about 12 minutes away. It had 13,207 students in fall 2025. It was Dixie State University until July 1, 2022. Its teams play NCAA Division I sports, and it joined the Big Sky Conference on July 1, 2026.

Dixie Technical College is also in St. George, at 610 South Tech Ridge Drive. It had 1,347 students in fall 2024. Its programs include welding, automotive and diesel work, culinary arts, medical assisting, and practical nursing.

Rocky Vista University has a medical school campus in Ivins, about 10 minutes away, at 255 East Center Street. Its first class started in 2017. Southern Utah University is in Cedar City, about an hour north.

Santa Clara's main road has three names. Sunset Boulevard comes in from St. George and becomes Santa Clara Drive at the east edge of town. It runs through the old town past City Hall and the Hamblin Home. At the west end it becomes Old Highway 91, which leads toward Ivins, the Shivwits lands, and Gunlock.

Pioneer Parkway crosses the north side of town along the hill. It runs from Lava Flow Drive and the St. George line west to Old Highway 91 near Ivins. Rachel Drive, Red Mountain Drive, and Canyon View Drive link it to the old town. Snow Canyon Parkway only crosses the northeast corner of the city on its way from St. George to Ivins.

The city's plan calls for widening Pioneer Parkway from three lanes to five between Lava Flow Drive and Red Mountain Drive. It also lists a planned road called Hamblin Parkway, which would run from Snow Canyon Parkway in Ivins to Old Highway 91. A regional plan shows a planned road on the west side that would run from I-15 through the South Hills to Old Highway 91. These are plans, so do not count on a date.

The census survey puts the middle commute at 15 to 19 minutes. A weekday drive at your own work hours will tell you more than any number.

SunTran, the St. George city bus, has no stops in Santa Clara. The city's own plan says so. The nearest stops are in St. George and Ivins. The census survey counts no one in Santa Clara who rides a bus to work. As in most of Southern Utah, plan on a car for daily life.

SunTran has seven local routes in St. George, Ivins, and Washington. There is no bus on Sundays or on listed holidays, and there is no rail.

Once you reach Zion Canyon, the National Park Service runs a free shuttle inside the park for much of the year. Check the park's page for this season's dates.

Santa Clara has no airport. St. George Regional Airport (SGU) is about 19 miles and 30 minutes away. Three airlines fly there, all flown by SkyWest. Delta flies nonstop to Salt Lake City. United flies nonstop to Denver and Los Angeles. American flies nonstop to Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth.

For many trips, that saves the long drive to Las Vegas. SGU had 318,532 passengers in 2024, up from 269,209 in 2023. The terminal opens two hours before the first flight of the day.

Santa Clara sits on the west side of the St. George area, between Ivins and the city. Most daily trips head east to St. George. Here is how long the common trips take from City Hall.

Many errands and places are even closer. Urgent care is about 5 minutes away, and Harmons and Gubler Park are about 7. The Cove Wash trailhead is about 8, and Rocky Vista University is about 10. Black Desert Resort and I-15 Exit 6 are about 11. Utah Tech is about 12, and Tuacahn is about 15.

Snow Canyon State Park's south entrance is about 12 minutes away. It is on Snow Canyon Drive in Ivins. From the north side of Santa Clara, the drive is 7 to 9 minutes.

The towns around Santa Clara are close. Here is how far each one is by road.

Outdoor places are within reach too. Gunlock State Park is about 25 minutes away, and Sand Hollow State Park is about 35. The Kolob Canyons part of Zion, off I-15, is about 40 minutes. Zion's south entrance, in Springdale, is about 46 miles and about 55 minutes. Brian Head, where the snow is, is about 1 hour 35 minutes.

Almost nobody puts this on a real estate site, but it is what you need in your first week. Santa Clara makes it easy. The city runs its own electric utility, Santa Clara City Power, and one city account covers power, water, sewer, and garbage. That means most of your setup is one application.

The city runs its own power plant, called Fort Clara Power Station. It burns natural gas and makes 9 megawatts. The city served about 3,800 power accounts in 2024. The utility won a national award for reliability that year. Sewer goes to the regional plant that St. George runs.

When you apply, ask the utility office for your trash pickup day.

You have fiber choices for home internet in Santa Clara. The state's data shows fiber from TDS Telecom, Quantum Fiber, and CenturyLink at the point checked in the city. Beehive Broadband and UTOPIA show fiber there too, and they may cover only part of town. A wireless provider, Kayenta Technologies, also shows up. What you can get still depends on the street, so check the exact address before you buy.

Moving day is only the start. Here is the short list for your first 90 days in Santa Clara, in the order most people do it. One surprise: there is no driver license office in Santa Clara or St. George. You will drive to Hurricane.

1. Open your city accountPower, water, sewer, and garbage are on one Santa Clara City account. Gas is Enbridge Gas Utah. Start them before you move in.
2. Get your Utah driver licenseThe only Driver License office in the county is at 102 South 5300 West in Hurricane. Book an appointment. Bring proof of who you are, your Social Security number, proof of your Utah address, and your current license. There is a written test.
3. Register your carUtah gives you 60 days to register after you set up a permanent home. The state DMV office is next door to the license office. Washington County does not require an emissions test. A car that is new to Utah needs a quick VIN check.
4. Register to voteDo it online at vote.utah.gov once you have your Utah license or state ID. Registration must reach the county clerk by 5 p.m. 11 days before an election. After that, you can register in person with two forms of ID. The clerk is at 111 East Tabernacle Street in St. George.
5. Claim the primary home tax breakUtah taxes a primary home on 55% of its value, on up to one acre of land. Washington County asks the owner to apply. You can apply online, or call the assessor at 435-301-7020. From January 1, 2027, state law makes an application mandatory when a home changes owners.
6. Sign up for schoolRegister through the Washington County School District. Check the boundary map for your address first, since the north side of town maps to an Ivins elementary school.
7. Learn your trash and recyclingAsk the city utility office for your pickup day. Recycling is every other week in the blue BluCan. Glass goes to a drop-off site, not the curb.
8. Start your mailSanta Clara has its own post office at 1400 Chapel Street. Harmons also has a post office counter.

Santa Clara has one full supermarket. Harmons is at 3520 Pioneer Parkway, at Rachel Drive. It opened in 2016, and it is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. It has a pharmacy, fuel, and a post office counter. It is about 7 minutes from City Hall, and the stores around it make up the town's main shopping area.

In town

Frei's Fruit Market is at 2895 Santa Clara Drive. It has been in the Frei family since 1956, and it is open Monday to Saturday in season, with short winter hours into mid-December. Roadside fruit stands came to town with the highway in the 1920s. The third generation of the family took over Frei's in 2024. The Santa Clara Post Office is at 1400 Chapel Street.

The bigger stores in St. George

There is no Walmart, Costco, or Smith's in Santa Clara. The St. George Downtown Farmers Market is at Vernon Worthen Park, 300 South 400 East. It meets on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, May to October, with a winter market from February to April. The Tuacahn Saturday Market in Ivins meets on Saturdays too. It is mostly art and crafts, with food vendors.

Santa Clara has red rock country at the end of the street. A federal reserve starts at the edge of town, and Snow Canyon State Park is about 12 minutes away. Here are the places I would start with.

That makes ten public pickleball courts in town, six at Gubler and four at Canyon View. Santa Clara has no public pool. The nearest is the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center in St. George. The park pages list a skate park only as a future project.

Red Mountain Wilderness, about 18,700 acres, has the river channel as its west edge. Pine Valley is not an option for summer heat right now, because its recreation area is closed after the 2025 fire and floods.

Zion is a day trip from Santa Clara. The south entrance is about 55 minutes away, and Kolob Canyons, the quieter Zion section off I-15, is about 40. Snow Canyon is a state park, not a national one, and it is the closest of all.

Brian Head Resort is the closest place with ski lifts. It is about 1 hour 35 minutes from Santa Clara, in the mountains northeast of Cedar City. Its base sits at 9,600 feet, and Brian Head gets about 87 inches of snow a year by the NOAA normal at the Bryce Canyon station.

The resort usually opens in November. Check its site for opening day. Snow is rare in town, as the snow topic shows, so skiing always means a drive.

Eagle Point Resort, in Beaver County, is closed for the 2026-27 winter after the Cottonwood Fire.

Yes. Santa Clara holds most of the Black Desert Resort course. The city's 2025 General Plan says the resort is about 600 acres, with 298 acres in Santa Clara and 302 in Ivins. Eleven of the course's 18 holes are inside Santa Clara. The resort's hotel and restaurants are on the Ivins side.

Tom Weiskopf drew the course on black lava rock, and it was his last design. It opened on May 27, 2023, and it has a bonus 19th hole. The course is public, so you do not have to stay at the resort. Non-guests book tee times at 435-222-7830.

Black Desert is also where the PGA TOUR comes to Utah each October. The event is the Bank of Utah Championship, held in early October. The city says there is no public parking in either town that week, so fans ride shuttles. An LPGA event ran here once, in May 2025, and is not held in 2026.

More courses are close. St. George owns four: Sunbrook, Southgate, Dixie Red Hills and St. George Golf Club. Entrada at Snow Canyon is private, and so is The Ledges.

Santa Clara has no sit-down dinner district. Most of its food is in two spots. One is a cluster of quick places on Pioneer Parkway around Harmons. The other is a few long-running stops on Santa Clara Drive. For a full dinner out, most of the choice is in St. George, about 10 minutes away.

For fruit in season, Frei's Fruit Market is in the shopping topic. The city says it has nearly 40 small businesses with a storefront. A retail and restaurant site called The Shops at Vera is listed for sale at Pioneer Parkway and Red Mountain Drive. Nothing is built on it today.

Santa Clara is quiet in the evening, and its weekends fill up outdoors. In town you will find a few old buildings, city parks and a handful of places to eat. For a movie, a mall or a big night out, people drive to St. George.

A bigger night out

St. George is about 10 minutes away. It has the nearest movie theater, the Museum of Art and the Electric Theater. The America First Performing Arts Center opened there on August 28, 2026. Tuacahn's outdoor shows are about 15 minutes away in Ivins. For a major concert or a pro game, many people drive to Las Vegas, about 2 hours 15 minutes away.

Santa Clara's arts are mostly history you can walk into, plus big stages next door. The Hamblin Home and the town museum tell the story of the Swiss families who came in 1861. Tuacahn, the big canyon theater, is about 15 minutes away.

Santa Clara's own big event is Swiss Days, held since 1990. It falls on the last Thursday to Saturday of September. The Saturday parade goes along Santa Clara Drive, from the Jacob Hamblin Home to City Hall. There is also a community dinner, a pancake breakfast and a 5K.
