Corner lots, edge lots, which way the home faces the sun, and how far along the nearby streets are can all change how a home feels day to day. Walk the actual lot, not just the model, and ask where the build schedule stands.

The Sand Hollow area puts you close to some of the best recreation in Washington County. Sand Hollow State Park, with its warm-water reservoir and red-sand dunes, is about eight minutes south. The JEM Trail and the Hurricane Cliffs mountain bike trails are within about 15 minutes for a ride along the rim.

Red Slate Estates is served by the Washington County School District. For the west side of Hurricane, the elementary school is Coral Canyon Elementary (grades K-5) in Washington, depending on the address. The district is changing which schools serve which streets as this side of town grows. After elementary come Hurricane Intermediate (grades 6-7), Hurricane Middle (grades 8-9), and Hurricane High (grades 10-12). Valley Academy, a K-8 charter school in Hurricane, is another option besides the neighborhood schools. Because boundaries shift, check the current assignment with the district for any home you are serious about. For outside school data, GreatSchools and Niche both publish numbers you can weigh yourself. For higher education, Utah Tech University and Dixie Technical College in St. George are about 25 minutes west.
