Morning in Shooting Star sounds like a well-kept Washington City neighborhood: garage doors opening and sprinklers coming on. The streets are quiet enough that you hear the birds before the traffic, and the morning light spreads across a wide, open sky that hints at what the night will bring.
By midday the pace is unhurried, with yards kept up and cars in the driveways, and errands take you to Telegraph Street in about 10 minutes.
Evening is where Shooting Star earns its name. It sits far enough from the bright lights of St. George that the sky opens up on a clear night with no moon. It is not a designated dark-sky preserve, but it is darker than most people expect this close to town. You can see the Milky Way from your own backyard, and on a good night in August the Perseid meteors put on a show that makes the drive home from dinner feel like a reward.

Shooting Star is a single-family neighborhood, and the homes generally date from the 2000s forward. You will find single-level and two-story plans, with stucco and stone exteriors in the warm desert tones common to Washington City. Lots are a typical size for the area, with enough room between homes that you are not looking into the neighbor's kitchen.
The homes are practical and well built, with attached garages and landscaped yards. What sets this neighborhood apart is the setting more than the architecture. You get the open sky, the quiet, and the breathing room of being a little way from the busiest parts of town.
You do not buy a Shooting Star home for the crown molding. You buy it for the sky above the backyard and the quiet at night.

Shooting Star is served by the Washington County School District. Which schools serve a given address depends on the district's current boundaries. GreatSchools and Niche both publish school data you can weigh yourself. Dixie Technical College and Utah Tech University are both within about 15 minutes in St. George.

The Milky Way is visible from your backyard
On a moonless night, the sky here is darker than most of St. George. It is not a designated dark-sky zone, but in summer you can still see the center of the galaxy without leaving your property.
August is meteor season
The Perseids peak around mid-August every year, and on a clear night Shooting Star lives up to its name. All you need is a lawn chair and a blanket, and the desert air keeps the mosquitoes to a minimum.
You trade a few extra driving minutes for the quiet
Telegraph Street takes about 10 minutes, and central St. George is 12 to 15. The night sky is what the extra drive buys you.

The dark sky is shared by the whole neighborhood, and keeping porch lights off at night is part of keeping it dark, which is part of what you are paying for.
