City Farr West, Weber County
One famous store, five parks, three schools and a freeway corner
Farr West, a flat crossroads city with one famous store.
Farr West holds about 7,900 people on flat lake plain northwest of Ogden, with Interstate 15 down the east side and Highway 126 as the spine, and the useful way in is through what sits on the ground: Smith and Edwards, the region's big country and surplus store, standing on Farr West land behind an Ogden mailing address; five city parks led by a standout with a fishing pond and a riding arena; three schools inside the line and a fourth just over it; and a freeway interchange where a Target anchored development is being built. Five pages on all of it, with the addresses, the hours and the mistakes to avoid.
The short answer
Farr West is a flat, fast changing city of about 7,900 people on the lake plain northwest of Ogden, with Interstate 15 down its east side and Highway 126 as its spine, and the honest way to describe it is by what sits on the ground rather than by scenery, because there is no canyon, river or lake inside the line. What there is: Smith and Edwards, the region's big country and surplus store, which stands on Farr West ground even though its mail says Ogden; five city parks led by Smith Family Park with its fishing pond, riding arena and pickleball courts; three public schools inside the line and a fourth just over it in Plain City; a July celebration; and a freeway interchange where a Target anchored development is being built on former farm ground. Checked August 2026.
The live question
Is Farr West growing or shrinking, when the whole story here is a new retail corner going up?
Both at once, and the split is the interesting part. The state's population committee put Farr West at 7,919 on 1 July 2025, which is sixty fewer people than the year before and makes it, on the same May 2026 ranking, the third steepest decline in Utah among communities between five and twenty thousand. And yet the city is up about 3 percent since the 7,691 counted in the 2020 census. A city can be both of those things when it is nearly full: the subdivisions filled in through the 2010s, the year to year arithmetic now moves gently in either direction, and the visible growth is not another street of houses but a commercial base arriving on the last big piece of open ground.
That open ground is the northeast corner of the freeway interchange, and it is the thing everyone means when they say Farr West is booming. Farr West Landing is a roughly fifty acre project on former farmland, anchored by a Target, with three apartment buildings and room for more than a dozen commercial pads. It is being built, not finished, and the honest way to hold it is as a construction site with an approved plan rather than as a place you can visit. The point for a household is simpler than the headlines: the city is adding shops and services it did not have, and it is doing it on the edge you would hear the freeway from.
None of this says a thing about who lives here, and this page will not pretend otherwise: an estimate is a count of households and it stops there. Because the city is close to full, almost everything you will find for sale already stands on a finished street, so the useful questions are about a particular house and a particular block rather than a subdivision that has not been drawn. The page on moving here works through the ones that actually matter, and the page on the crossroads takes the Landing at the parcel.
One number to set straight, because the copied one is wrong. The ground at Farr West City Hall stands at about 4,280 feet on the U.S. Geological Survey's one meter elevation service, not the 4,250 that gets repeated. It is a small correction and it does not change a thing about daily life; it is here because a page that gets the easy number wrong should not be trusted with the hard ones. Farr West is flat, plainly and genuinely flat, which is the first thing anyone notices driving in off the interstate. Checked August 2026.
Start here
A crossroads city with one famous store, five parks, and the schools half its own population fills.
Start with the store, because it is the one thing in Farr West that people drive across the region to reach. Smith and Edwards at 3936 N 2000 W is a big independent country, ranch, sporting goods and surplus store, the kind of place where the sporting goods, the western tack, the camping gear and the army surplus all live under one roof. It is open Monday to Friday nine to eight and Saturday nine to six, closed Sundays, free to walk, with a large free lot. The one thing worth knowing before you repeat it: the store's mail says Ogden, but the county parcel record puts the building on Farr West ground. Both are true at once, and it is the cleanest example of a habit this whole area has of mailing one city while sitting in another.
Then the parks, and the city is generous with them for its size. Farr West lists five: Smith Family Park at 2441 W 4000 N is the standout, with a fishing pond, a riding arena, pickleball and basketball courts, a zip line and a walking path; Civic Center Park sits on the campus with City Hall and the Recreation Center at 1896 N 1800 W and is the walk to one; and Mountain View, Farr West and North parks fill out the neighborhoods with a pavilion and a playground apiece. Every park keeps the same rule the city prints: gates from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, and restrooms unlocked late April to early October only.
The rest of what a household uses runs on schools and a fire station. Three public schools stand inside the line, Farr West Elementary, Silver Ridge Elementary and Wahlquist Junior High, holding more pupils between them than the city has residents, and the high school, Fremont, sits just over the line in Plain City. Weber Fire District runs a station on 1300 North. There is no library in Farr West itself; the nearest branches are the North Branch in Ogden and the Southwest Branch in Roy. The ranked page takes the things worth a trip in order, and the schools page follows the chain your children would actually walk.

The places
Everything in Farr West worth a stop, with the address, the hours and what it costs.
One table, because Farr West is a city where the practical detail is the whole answer. Every figure below comes from the body that runs the place: the store's operator for the store, the city's own parks and recreation pages for the parks, the fire district for the station, and the county system for the nearest library. Read August 2026.

Store hours from Smith and Edwards; park amenities, hours and the seasonal restroom rule from Farr West City's own parks page; the fire station from the Weber Fire District; the library branches from the Weber County Library System. The city publishes no acreage for any park, so none is printed. What a house here is worth belongs to the practical Farr West city guide rather than to this page.
Two things stand out of that table. The first is how little any of it costs. The store is free to walk, every park is free, and the one thing with a price attached, a recreation program or a reserved pavilion, is small and published rather than guessed. For a household weighing Farr West against a neighboring city, the honest draw is not a marquee attraction; it is a good standout park and a famous store, both free, five minutes from most addresses. The ranked page puts the five things worth a trip in order.
The second is the gap where a library would be. Farr West has no branch of its own, and the two nearest sit in other cities, the North Branch over in Ogden and the Southwest Branch in Roy. It is a real thing to know if a library afternoon is part of your week, and it is the kind of detail a listicle skips. The page on moving here lays out the rest of the service map, including the two water bills that surprise people arriving from out of state.
The region
Farr West is a base camp for the region, not a holder of any of its big outdoor names.
The marquee outdoors of Weber and Morgan, the canyon, the two reservoirs, the ski mountains, the downtown main street and the bench trails, are all places a Farr West household drives to rather than places the city holds. No canyon opens inside the line, no river crosses it, and the lake is a neighbor's edge. That is not a shortfall so much as the deal a flat crossroads city offers: the good stuff is close, each subject has its own page below, and none of the drives is long.

The region hubThe water and the wetlands are a neighbor's subject, and the mountains are all a drive. Farr West does not touch the Great Salt Lake or any wetland shore; the managed marsh people ask about, Ogden Bay, sits about a quarter of an hour southwest and belongs to the Hooper companion, which owns its access and its rules. Antelope Island is a Davis County day trip south down the freeway. And the canyon, the reservoirs and the ski roads open east of Ogden, half an hour to forty five minutes from most Farr West addresses, each on its own region page above.

The reservoirsLiving with it
A flat crossroads city, two water bills, and a freeway edge that is about to get louder and busier.
The honest character of a Farr West address is convenience on flat ground. It is a short city to live in: the store, the parks, the schools and the fire station all sit within a few minutes of one another, the streets run on the numbered grid so plainly that a stranger can navigate from an address inside a week, and the freeway is right there for the commute to Ogden or Salt Lake. What it trades for that is scenery. There is no canyon, no river frontage, no reservoir and no lake access inside the city, and any page that offers you one is describing a neighbor or a drive.
Two things surprise people, and both are worth sorting before an offer. The first is water: like much of this area, many Farr West lots carry a separate secondary irrigation account for the sprinklers on top of the culinary bill, so budget for two water accounts rather than one. The second is the freeway edge. Farr West Landing will put a Target and a wall of new commercial next to the homes closest to the I-15 interchange, which means new shops for the city and more traffic and light for the addresses right on that corner. The page on the crossroads takes the roads and the project properly.
What is genuinely good here is the price of using the place and the fact that the parks and the store cost nothing. What is genuinely thin is anything to do outdoors that is not a park or a drive. If a canyon, a trail or a reservoir matters to a household, the good news is that the whole of the Weber and Morgan set is inside forty five minutes, most of it east of Ogden.
The addresses on the east edge are the ones to look at twice, because the freeway corner is changing. Farr West Landing is bringing a Target and a wall of new commercial to the Interstate 15 interchange, which is convenience for the city and traffic, light and noise for the homes closest to that corner. It is being built rather than open, so weigh it on the approved plan rather than on the figures that float around online, several of which are wrong. If a home's appeal leans on the Landing, read the approved site plan and the traffic picture for that exact corner, and stand on the lot at the hour you would really use the freeway. The crossroads page takes the roads and the project in full.
Farr West is the rare city whose most famous thing sits behind another city's mailing address. The store is genuinely here, the parks are free, and the freeway edge is the thing to look at twice before you buy.
The Farr West companion
Five pages, and every one of them answers a question people actually type.
The ranked list of what to do and what each thing costs. The country store, its hours, and the reason its mail says one city while it sits in another. The crossroads on the east edge, the freeway interchange, the commute both ways, and the development going up on the old farm ground. The three schools inside the line and the fourth just over it, with the enrollment and the chain. And what an address here asks of a household, from the two water bills to the service map.
Quick answers
Farr West, answered.
Start with Smith and Edwards, the region's big country, ranch, sporting goods and surplus store at 3936 N 2000 W, open Monday to Friday nine to eight and Saturday nine to six, free to walk. Then the parks: Smith Family Park at 2441 W 4000 N has a fishing pond, a riding arena and pickleball courts, and four more city parks fill out the neighborhoods. There is a July celebration, and the real recreation, the canyon and the reservoirs, is a drive east of Ogden. The ranked page on this site takes the five things worth a trip in order.
Farr West sits on the flat lake plain northwest of Ogden in Weber County, with Interstate 15 down its east side and Highway 126, the 2000 West line, running north to south through it. City Hall is at 1896 N 1800 W and the ground there stands at about 4,280 feet on the U.S. Geological Survey's elevation service, correcting the 4,250 that gets copied around. The 2020 census counted 7,691 people and the state's estimate for 1 July 2025 is 7,919. Neighbors are Ogden to the southeast, Plain City to the west, Marriott-Slaterville to the south and Pleasant View to the northeast.
It is in Farr West, and its mail says Ogden. The store's own address prints 3936 N 2000 W, Ogden, but the Weber County parcel record puts the building on a Farr West commercial parcel, and the store complex sits on adjoining Farr West ground. Both are true at once, because the Ogden address is a postal one rather than a city line, which is a habit this whole grid has. What matters to a visit does not change either way: it is on Highway 126 just west of the freeway, north of the Exit 349 interchange, with a large free lot. A second Smith and Edwards on Redwood Road in West Jordan is a different store.
It is a roughly fifty acre development being built on former farmland at the northeast corner of the Interstate 15 and 2700 North interchange, Exit 349. A Target is the one committed anchor, with a build expected to start in the fall, and the approved plan carries 274 apartments in three buildings plus room for more than a dozen commercial pads. The developer is Woodsonia Real Estate. It is being built, not open, so treat any restaurant or retail names you see attached to it as unconfirmed until they actually arrive. The city's crossroads page on this site takes the project and the roads properly.
Weber School District serves Farr West. The public schools inside the city are two elementaries, Farr West and Silver Ridge, both for kindergarten through sixth grade, and Wahlquist Junior High for the middle grades; the assigned high school, Fremont, sits a few minutes away over the line in Plain City. Most addresses feed an elementary, then Wahlquist, then Fremont, but the district redrew its western boundaries when West Field High opened in 2024, so confirm the exact assignment on the district boundary tool rather than an older feeder list. This site does not rate schools; GreatSchools and Niche do, and the schools page here carries the detail.
Not inside the city. The Weber County Library System runs no branch in Farr West, and the two nearest are the North Branch at 475 E 2600 N in Ogden and the Southwest Branch at 2039 W 4000 S in Roy, with the main library on Jefferson Avenue in Ogden. A Weber County library card works at every branch in the system and holds travel between them, so the practical answer is that a Farr West household uses a branch in a neighboring city. It is a small thing that a listicle skips and a family with a weekly library habit will want to know before choosing a street.
No. Farr West sits well inland on the farmland side of the grid and does not reach the Great Salt Lake or any wetland shore. The managed marsh people ask about, the Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area, is roughly a quarter of an hour southwest by road and belongs to Hooper, which owns its access points and the current permit rules. From Farr West it is a neighbor's subject, named here only to point you at the Hooper companion. For water inside a short drive, the reservoirs above Ogden Canyon are the honest answer, east of the city rather than west.
Short to Ogden and a normal freeway run to Salt Lake. Ogden is about eight miles southeast, a matter of minutes, and downtown Salt Lake City is roughly thirty five to forty miles south on Interstate 15. Brigham City is fifteen to eighteen miles north. There is no FrontRunner commuter rail station in Farr West itself; the nearest platforms are in Roy and at Ogden Central. Interstate 15 runs the city's whole east side with the interchange at Exit 349, so the freeway is genuinely close from most addresses, which is both the convenience and, on the corner by the Landing, the thing to weigh.
It depends on what you want from a place, which is the honest answer for any city. Farr West gives you flat, easy ground, a short drive to everything inside the city, a famous store, good free parks and quick freeway access to two job centers. What it does not give you is scenery of its own, a library branch or a walkable downtown, and the addresses nearest the freeway will live next to a growing retail corner. If those trades suit a household, it is a practical, convenient place. Tell me what you are weighing and I will connect you with a Weber and Morgan partner agent who works these streets.
Five pages on a city you pass through and then find reasons to stop in.
Farr West asks a short, specific list of questions, and almost none of them is about scenery. How close the property sits to the I-15 interchange and to the Farr West Landing corner, because that is the loudest, brightest and busiest edge of the city and it is changing. Whether the lot carries a secondary irrigation account as well as the culinary one, because in this area that is often two water bills rather than one. Which side of the line a home is on, because a Farr West address and an Ogden mailing address are not the same thing here and the store proves it. Which of the schools an exact address actually feeds, because the district redrew its western boundaries in 2024 and holds that answer rather than the city. And whether flat, convenient and close to the freeway is the trade you want, because that is what Farr West is. Tell me what you are weighing and I will introduce you to a Weber and Morgan partner agent who works these streets, and stay on the file for the financing side.
