Moving to Farr West, Utah

Farr West is a city of about 8,160 people on flat old farm ground at the north end of Weber County. It covers about 5.9 square miles. City Hall sits at about 4,260 feet, and the whole city stays within about 55 feet of that. It sits on the flat bed of an old lake, so there are no hills inside the city. The Wasatch Mountains rise to the east.

I-15 runs north and south through the east part of the city, with Exit 349 at 2700 North. About a quarter of the land, and City Hall itself, sit east of the freeway. Two state roads cross town. Highway 126 is 2000 West, and Highway 134 is 2700 North, which runs east to North Ogden. Downtown Ogden is about 7 miles away, or 12 minutes. Salt Lake City is about 46 minutes. The county offices are in Ogden.

Joseph Taylor settled this ground in 1858. In 1868 it became part of the Harrisville precinct. In 1890 the west end of Harrisville took its own name, Farr West. The name honors two early Weber County leaders, Lorin Farr and Chauncey W. West. It is two last names, not “far west” as a direction.

Farm life shaped the town. Early farmers grew hay and grain and kept a few animals. Sugar beets became a big crop in 1898, and a pea viner opened in 1923. Dairy and poultry farms came next. After World War II most small farms closed, and a few large dairy or beef farms stayed. The Prairie House tavern opened in 1862 and served travelers headed to the Montana gold mines. The Union Pacific laid a rail line through the east part in 1869. Two canals were dug here, the Western Irrigation canal in 1858 and the Willard Bay Canal in 1965.

Farr West became a city on November 6, 1980, and began formal operation on January 1, 1981. It was the twelfth city in Weber County. Jimmie Papageorge was the first mayor. The 2022 city plan says Farr West is “developing from a rural community grown from an agricultural heritage, to a suburban community.” It also calls the 2700 North and 2000 West area “a logical area for a regional commercial development.” The city has seven zones. Farming “will continue to be allowed and be supported” where the land is zoned for it.

One more thing about the freeway corner. A project called Farr West Landing covers about 50 acres at the northeast corner of Exit 349. Site work began in 2026, and a Target was expected to start building in fall 2026. Nothing there is open. A 2026 trade report says the store is due in 2027. Farr West has four real seasons. Summers are hot and dry. Winters are cold, with snow from November through April. Spring and fall are mild. NOAA keeps no weather station in town. The temperatures below come from its 1991 to 2020 normals at the old Ogden Sugar Factory station. That station was about 4 miles south, on the same flat ground and at nearly the same height as City Hall.

That station closed in 2009, so its record is short, 10 to 18 years. It runs a few degrees warmer than the two long-record stations nearby, Brigham City and the Ogden airport. Each of those averages about 91°F in July. Do not read Farr West’s 95 against another town’s 89 as proof that one town is six degrees hotter. Part of the gap is the short record.

Rain and melted snow add up to about 19 inches a year. That figure also rests on a short record. January and December are the wettest months. July and August are the driest.

Frost dates matter if you garden. The last spring freeze is usually around April 22, and the first fall freeze around October 18. That leaves about 177 frost-free days. In one year out of ten, the last frost comes as late as May 9.

Farr West gets about 38 inches of snow in a normal year. No station in town keeps snow normals. This is NOAA’s figure for Brigham City, about 16 miles north on the same flat ground. The North Ogden hub uses the same station, and NOAA marks the figure as provisional.

January is the snowiest month, with about 12 inches. December brings about 8.6 and February about 7.5. March and November each bring about 4. Snow can start in October, with about half an inch, and can fall into April. From May through September there is none. December through February brings about 28 of the 38 inches.

Summers are hot and dry. A normal July afternoon reaches about 95°F at the old Ogden Sugar Factory station. Nights fall to about 62°F, so the house cools off after dark. That station has a short record and runs warmer than the two long-record stations nearby, so the true figure may sit a few degrees lower.

Hot days still come. On the old station’s record, about 65 days a year reach 90°F or hotter. August is close behind July, with highs near 94°F. July and August are also the driest months.

Farr West has no wind record. No wind gauge sits in town, and there is no long record to read. So there is no local number to give, and I will not guess one.

Here is what I would check instead. Look at the trees, the fences and the roof of any home you tour. Ask how the home did in the last big wind.

Yes, in winter, like the rest of the Wasatch Front. An inversion is when cold air gets trapped in a valley under a lid of warmer air. On calm winter days, haze builds in that trapped air. The Weber-Morgan Health Department says winter inversions trap haze over the flat low ground. No air monitor sits in Farr West, so I cannot give a local number.

What the EPA says

Part of Weber County is in the Northern Wasatch Front area for the 2015 ozone standard. Ozone is a gas that forms on hot, sunny days. EPA lists that area as Serious, which means it does not meet the standard. On April 21, 2026, EPA proposed to repeal the Serious classification. That was not final at the last EPA list, dated September 30, 2026.

Fine particles, called PM2.5, are the main winter haze concern. Part of Weber County is in the Salt Lake City area for the 2006 PM2.5 standard. That area has been a maintenance area for fine particles since December 2025. That means it now meets the standard and has a plan to keep it that way.

EPA lists only part of the county in each area. Check the EPA map to see whether an address falls inside.

Here is what I would do. Check the air each day on the state’s air quality site, the way you check the weather. If air matters to you, visit during a gray winter stretch and a hot summer afternoon before you buy.

The house is the biggest cost of living in Farr West. The glance box at the top of this page shows the latest typical home value, from the U.S. Census. I would rather show you the parts of a budget than one made-up index number.

The city sends no bill of its own. Bona Vista Water bills for the city's charges along with your drinking water, and you get one statement a month. The city part is about $56 a month with one garbage can. Add the water base charge, and it is about $67 a month before you use any water. The utilities topic lists each charge.

Yard water is a second bill, and it does not come from Bona Vista. Pineview Water Systems or Mountain View Irrigation supplies it, depending on the parcel, so ask the seller which one.

There is no full grocery store inside the city. The weekly shop is a short drive to a nearby town. The shopping topic has the options.

Against the older Ogden-area cities, Farr West has newer homes. Against Ogden itself, you trade a bigger city's services for a small separate city, with downtown Ogden minutes away. I can run the real numbers side by side for the addresses you are weighing.

Three taxes matter most when you move here: sales tax, state income tax, and property tax. The table shows each one for Farr West.

Utah gives a tax break on the home you live in. A primary home is taxed on 55% of its market value, not the full value. Short-term rentals and empty homes do not qualify. From January 1, 2027, a new owner must apply for the break. Ask about it at closing.

Your property tax bill comes from several taxing groups. The school district takes the largest share. The county, the city, and a few special districts add the rest. Those districts cover fire, 911 dispatch, sewer treatment, water supply, and mosquito control. Most of the city sits in one tax area, and the 0.57% figure is for that area. The county average is a little higher, at about 0.60%. Other tax areas in the city run a bit higher or lower.

The city's own levy is one of the lowest in Weber County. Only Plain City and Hooper are lower. It pays for general city operations. For 2026 the council adopted the certified rate. That rate is a little lower than last year's, so there was no Truth in Taxation hearing. That is the public hearing a city must hold before it raises property tax revenue. The council vote was unanimous on June 18, 2026.

Weber County also requires an emissions test to register most cars. The first 90 days topic has the rule.

The glance box at the top of this page shows the latest typical home value for Farr West, from the U.S. Census. That number is what owners think their homes are worth, averaged over five years. It is not a sale price. Price any home against recent sales of homes like it nearby.

Farr West is a city of owners and single-family houses. About 94.5% of occupied homes are lived in by their owners. About 90% are detached houses on their own lots. The survey found no buildings of two or more units, and almost no vacant or seasonal homes. Newer apartments and townhomes are not in that survey yet.

Most homes are new. The median home was built in 2004. About 68% were built in 2000 or later, and only about 11% before 1980. Older houses on big former farm lots do exist, but they are a small share of the market.

Homes are big. About 38% have five or more bedrooms. Another 20% have four, and 29% have three. About 11% have two bedrooms, and about 1% are a studio or one bedroom. A smaller home is possible, but it is a small slice of what is for sale.

About 10% of homes are mobile homes. The city's plan also mentions manufactured home neighborhoods on private streets. If you look at one, ask about the land under it and how a lender sees it.

Lots vary. The city has two residential zones named R-1-15 and R-1-22, and farm zones named A-1 and A-1-R. Check the zone for the exact parcel. Many lots allow a few animals, which the before you buy topic explains.

An Ogden ZIP code does not prove a home is in Ogden, or in Farr West. The city decides your utility bill and your tax bill, so check the parcel in the county records before you make an offer.

The city's plan names no neighborhoods, so I use the freeway and the main roads. The whole city is flat, within about 55 feet from one side to the other. The areas below run from the busiest corner outward.

Some names on listings sound like Farr West but sit next door. Diamond E and Stillcreek are in Plain City. JDC Ranch and The Grove sit in unincorporated Weber County. Rocky Meadows, Budge Farms, and The Station are in Pleasant View or Harrisville. Confirm the city on the county parcel record.

Farr West grew fast after 2000, and building has not stopped. New homes go in the south and west subdivisions and on farm parcels that are rezoned. The biggest project of all is Farr West Landing, a shopping and apartment site at Exit 349.

Here is what the Planning Commission and council records showed in 2026. A recommendation is not a final vote, so ask what has been built and what has been approved.

• South and westSlater rezoneAbout 1300 North 2400 WestA farm rezone first asked for 525 homes. It was cut to 385 homes, and the townhomes were dropped. The Planning Commission recommended it on July 9, 2026. At the hearing, the plan said there will be no basements because of the water table. Buyers must be told that the sewer plant is nearby. The developer agreed to pay $4,000 a home toward parks, trails, and roads, according to the mayor. UDOT would study a traffic signal.
• South and westLegendsNear 1500 North 2300 WestVisionary Homes is the one builder named in a 2026 record. The council approved Phase 2 in August 2026, with 23 townhomes and 9 single-family homes.
• East of I-15West CreekAbout 1000 North 1550 WestPlats and a building site plan were approved in 2026. The city has heard complaints about dust during site work. The record does not say what the buildings will be, so ask before you assume.
• Exit 349Farr West LandingNortheast corner of Exit 349, about 50 acresThe plan calls for 274 apartments in three buildings. It also allows up to about 269,000 square feet of stores. Site work began in 2026, and Target was expected to start building in the fall. Nothing is open. A 2026 trade report says the store is due in 2027. The city's tax help is tied to an operating Target by 2029. Other names are talk, so ask which tenants have signed.

The city also adopted a parks impact fee of $6,137 a home on July 16, 2026. A builder may pass it on, so ask how it shows up in the price.

Before you fall in love with a lot

1. City and zone.Confirm the city, the zone, and the subdivision name for the exact parcel.
2. Water and sewer.Ask which drinking water and sewer lines the lot can reach.
3. Yard water.Ask whether the lot has a secondary water account and what it costs.
4. Groundwater.Ask the city engineer how deep the water table runs, and whether a basement is allowed.
5. Flood maps.Check the address on the FEMA flood map.
6. The freeway corner.Check how close the lot sits to the Exit 349 corner and its traffic.

Builders often cover the buyer agent fee, and your agent puts that in writing before you sign. Buying new works differently from buying a resale home, so read how it works before you tour.

Every town has its own list of things to check. These are the questions I would ask about any Farr West home. A map or a test can answer each one for a single address, so check them one home at a time.

Farr West is a farm-edge city, so expect farm neighbors. City code allows home livestock in the A-1, A-1-R, R-1-15, and R-1-22 zones. That includes horses, goats, and chickens, unless recorded covenants or CC&Rs say no. The code works on animal points, with 100 points for each vacant acre. Horses and cattle count 20 points each, and swine are allowed only in the A-1 zone. A household may keep two pets. A neighbor may keep animals you do not.

Near active building sites, expect dust and truck traffic. The Central Weber Sewer plant sits just south of the city's southwest corner. New homes near it come with a notice that the plant is nearby.

The state's high wildfire risk map shows nothing inside the city. Utah law does not require agents to verify or disclose geologic hazards, and a normal homeowner policy usually does not cover damage from them.

This is general information, not legal, engineering, or insurance advice. Sort the financing before the search. The best first step is to get pre-approved. That means a lender checks your finances and tells you how much you can borrow. It shows what you can spend, and it makes your offer stronger.

If you own a home now, timing matters as much as price. Selling one home and buying another on a set date can be the hard part. A plan for the gap between the two keeps the search honest. Call early, before you tour.

Farr West has newer subdivision homes and some older farm parcels. Knowing how a certain property is likely to finance and appraise keeps a purchase calm. An older farm parcel can carry its own wrinkles, so that groundwork matters most there.

One loan type does not apply here. USDA loans are for rural homes, and the USDA map shows all of Farr West as ineligible. Conventional, FHA, and VA loans are the ones to look at. In Farr West, a partner agent I trust does the work on the ground.

The Census counts about 4,200 working residents in Farr West. Most of them drive to work, and the table shows the fields they work in.

What residents do for work

Public administration is about 15 in 100 jobs, which is a large share for a small city. Hill Air Force Base sits south in Davis County. It is about 16 minutes to the Roy Gate area.

Work inside the city

The Associated Food Stores distribution center is at 2400 North 1850 West. The city’s 2022 General Plan says it supplies hundreds of jobs to Farr West. The same plan says Smith and Edwards has been a source of sales tax since the city was created. Petersen Inc. also has a plant on 2000 West.

The city is also building a new tax base at Exit 349. The new construction topic tells the Farr West Landing story. In July 2026 the mayor reported $164,000 in sales tax for that one month.

The commute

The average trip to work is about 20 minutes. About two in three workers drive alone, and about one in eight carpool. Almost one in five work from home. About 8 in 100 spend 45 minutes or more getting to work. Almost no one rides transit, and about 85 in 100 households have two or more vehicles.

There is no hospital inside Farr West. Hospital care is south, in the Ogden area, and the two big hospitals are about 17 minutes from City Hall. That is a short drive, and it helps to know the names before you pick a doctor.

Level I trauma centers are in Salt Lake County. A third state-licensed hospital in the county, Northern Utah Rehabilitation Hospital, is at 5825 Harrison Boulevard in South Ogden. It has 40 beds.

Fire and ambulance service comes from Weber Fire District Station 61, inside the city. For an emergency, call 911. Check your insurance network before you choose a doctor.

Farr West is in the Weber School District, not the Ogden School District. Weber has 30,968 students, by the state count on October 1, 2025. Elementary school is kindergarten to grade 6. Junior high is grades 7 to 9, and high school is grades 10 to 12.

Schools inside the city

That is three district schools with about 2,200 students between them. No charter school sits inside the city. A public charter is a free public school that runs on its own, outside the district.

Schools just outside the line

Fremont High is in Plain City, about 8 minutes from City Hall. The district redrew its lines when West Field High opened in 2024. The high school for an address can differ from an older feeder list.

Student counts come from the Utah State Board of Education for 2025 to 2026. Which school an address feeds is set by the district’s boundary tool.

Confirm the school for any address with the district before you write an offer. I do not rate schools, and I would be wary of anyone who says which one is best. The links below go to the district and to independent sites.

No. There is no campus inside Farr West. Weber State University is in Ogden, about 16 minutes from City Hall. Ogden-Weber Technical College is also in Ogden.

Weber State is a public university. The University of Utah is in Salt Lake City, south on I-15.

Traffic here is a commute question more than a town question. The jobs topic has the commute figures. No count in the sources says how crowded the roads get at rush hour, so drive your own route at the hour you would go.

The roads that matter

I-15 runs north and south through the east part of the city. Exit 349 at 2700 North is inside the city, and it is about 6 minutes from City Hall. City Hall and about a quarter of the land sit east of the freeway.

2000 West is SR-126, the main north-south road. 2700 North is SR-134. It crosses I-15 at Exit 349 and runs east to North Ogden.

The city’s plan lists new east-west crossings of the Willard Canal at 2950 North and 2225 North. In 2026, Utah State University students also studied a walking crossing on 2700 North for the city council.

Not really. Farr West has no FrontRunner stop, and no UTA bus route inside the city is confirmed. Almost no resident rides transit to work. Most people drive.

Times and routes change, so check rideuta.com before you build a routine on any of them.

Not in town, but a small one is close. Ogden-Hinckley Airport (OGD) is about 12 minutes from City Hall. Breeze Airways flies from there to Orange County, California, about twice a week. Check the airline for days and times.

For most flights, people use Salt Lake City International (SLC). It is about 41 miles south, a drive of about 48 minutes.

The North Ogden Divide road can close in winter. Then the way to Nordic Valley is down through Ogden Canyon, which takes over half an hour. Powder Mountain by the canyon takes about 41 to 45 minutes.

Most of your setup goes through one office. Bona Vista Water Improvement District supplies the drinking water for the whole city. Its bill also carries the city’s garbage, sewer, storm water, and road fee. To set up or change the name on city utilities, call Bona Vista at 801-621-0474. Its office is in Farr West at 2020 West 1300 North.

New owners fill out a Residential Service Application, by email or in person. The city sets the charges, so questions about them go to City Hall at 801-731-4187.

The gas company was once called Dominion Energy, and the city’s page still uses the old name. Check the city and Bona Vista sites for current fees and hours.

What the city part of the bill looks like

The city’s charges ride on the Bona Vista bill each month. Here is each one. Sewer and garbage rates went up in June 2026. The cost of living topic adds them up.

Water use costs extra. Since April 9, 2026, Bona Vista has billed at its “Severe” drought stage, which makes usage rates 50 percent higher. Check the current stage when you set up service.

The 2026 watering rules

In 2026, Bona Vista allowed no lawn watering until May 15 for customers without secondary water. Customers with secondary water must use it for irrigation, even when it is briefly unavailable. The fine is $100 per day, per incident. Ask about the lot’s secondary water during your inspection period, and check Bona Vista’s drought page for current rules.

City Hall, police, fire, and the library

City Hall is at 1896 North 1800 West, and the phone is 801-731-4187. It is open Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Most permits go through the city’s online permit portal.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office provides police service by contract. The city’s non-emergency number is 801-395-8221, and emergencies go to 911. Weber Fire District Station 61, at 2023 West 1300 North, provides fire and ambulance service.

There is no library inside the city. The Weber County Library North Branch in North Ogden and the Main Library in Ogden are each about 11 minutes away.

Fiber is reported across Farr West. The state broadband map shows Connext Networks fiber at every Farr West point checked. Optic Loop fiber shows up in the north and west. The Exit 349 corner has the most choices.

Moving day is only the start. Here is the short list for your first 90 days in Farr West, in a sensible order.

1. Set up the Bona Vista accountCall Bona Vista Water at 801-621-0474 or fill out its Residential Service Application. That one account starts water and the city’s garbage, sewer, storm water, and road fee. Then start Rocky Mountain Power and Enbridge Gas Utah.
2. Find out who supplies yard waterAsk the seller which one serves the lot, Pineview Water Systems or Mountain View Irrigation. It is a separate account and a separate bill.
3. Get your Utah driver licenseThe Driver License Division office is at 615 East 5300 South in South Ogden. It is the only office serving Weber County, and a transfer visit uses an appointment.
4. Check the emissions ruleWeber County tests most cars to register them. The notes below have the basics.
5. Register your carUtah gives you 60 days after you make a permanent home here. The DMV office is at 2447 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden, about 10 minutes away. Pass the emissions test first if your car needs one.
6. Apply for the primary home exemptionA primary home is taxed on 55 percent of its value. From January 1, 2027, a new owner must apply for it. The taxes topic has the details.
7. Register to voteDo it online at vote.utah.gov, or in person with ID. The site lists the deadlines for each election.
8. Sign up for schoolConfirm the school for your address with the district, then register. The schools topic explains the boundaries.

The emissions test

Weber County is one of five Utah counties that require an emissions test for most cars. Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, and Cache are the others. Electric cars are exempt. You test no more than two months before your registration is due. Cars less than six years old are tested once every two years.

On October 1, 2026, the county ended its old tailpipe test. Some older and heavy vehicles are now exempt. The state’s records may still ask for a test on those vehicles. If so, the owner files a county web form. Check the Weber-Morgan Health Department before you test.

Rules and office hours change. Check each office before you go.

Farr West has no full grocery store inside the city. The map records show none. The weekly grocery run goes west to Plain City or east to North Ogden or Harrisville. Inside the city, shopping means fuel stops, farm and ranch supplies, and a row of chain restaurants at Exit 349. The restaurants topic names the places to eat.

The new Target

A Target is being built at the Exit 349 corner, as part of Farr West Landing. It is not open. A 2026 trade report says the store is due in 2027. The new construction topic has the full Landing story.

Where the big stores are

A warehouse club, a mall, or a Target means a drive south. Costco is in South Ogden, and Newgate Mall is in Ogden. A Target, Trader Joe’s, Sam’s Club, and Walmart are on Riverdale Road in Riverdale. WinCo is on 12th Street in Ogden. A new Walmart Supercenter is being built in West Haven and is not open yet.

Farr West has no canyon, river or mountain trail inside the city. The old lake plain is flat, so the outdoors here means city parks, a trail system, and a short drive to bigger places. Mountains start about 12 minutes away.

The five city parks

The city runs five parks, about 52 acres in all. Each one has a playground, a bowery (a covered picnic shelter), and restrooms. The restrooms are open from late April to early October. Park hours run from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset.

The city counts about 5.4 miles of trails. Most are paved paths, 10 feet wide. The city also mentions a pump track (a small loop for bikes), but its parks page does not say where it is.

The Rec Center

The Rec Center is at City Hall, 1896 N 1800 W. It has an exercise room and a basketball court. It is open Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Sunday.

Residents pay $8 once for a key card, then $15 a month or $150 a year for one person. Non-residents pay $25 a month or $250 a year, and a day pass is $6.50. Senior residents get a free lifetime membership with the key card. The city also runs a Senior Center at the same address, with free programs for people 55 and over. An open pickleball session for ages 55 and over runs Fridays from 8 to 10 a.m. for $2.

Short drives to bigger outdoors

The Pioneer Trailhead in North Ogden is the closest trailhead in the Wasatch Mountains. Ben Lomond, about 9,700 feet, is the high peak above North Ogden. The North Ogden hub tells the trail and Divide road story in full.

Willard Bay State Park is a freshwater reservoir with two marinas. You can boat, swim, water ski, and fish, and winter brings eagle watching. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. A private vehicle pays $25 for the day, or $10 from Labor Day to Easter. Seniors and walk-ins pay less.

Pineview Reservoir lies up Ogden Canyon. In 2026, Ogden City is replacing a section of its water pipe under the lake, so the arms were lowered by mid September. The work under the lake runs from mid September 2026 into February 2027. How fast it refills depends on the winter snow.

The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, near Brigham City, has a 12 mile auto tour. Antelope Island State Park, in the Great Salt Lake, is a Davis County day trip with bison and shoreline. Ogden has more, including the Ogden River Parkway, Waterfall Canyon, and the Ogden Nature Center.

No national park is close to Farr West. Utah's big parks are a long day of driving south and east, so plan an overnight stay. The nearest National Park Service site is Golden Spike National Historical Park, where the first railroad across the country was joined.

Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Canyonlands are farther still. The Utah drive times tool below measures a trip from Farr West to any of 138 towns, including the town beside each park entrance.

Golden Spike and Arches times are map estimates from City Hall. The Capitol Reef time comes from the Utah City Finder's drive table. Check each park's own site for hours, fees, and closures.

Farr West is not a ski town, but three resorts sit within about 40 minutes. All three are in or above the Ogden Valley, on the other side of the mountain. The road you take matters. In summer, the road over the North Ogden Divide is the short way in. In winter it can close, and then trips go through Ogden Canyon.

Snowbasin usually opens around Thanksgiving, and Powder Mountain usually opens in mid December. Each resort posts its own date, so check before you plan a trip.

Think about the winter drive if skiing matters to you. A trip over the Divide is a bonus in good weather, not a promise. The North Ogden hub tells the Divide road story, with its gates. Places in Ogden Valley such as Eden and Huntsville sit closer to the lifts than Farr West does.

Farr West has its own public course. Remuda Golf Course is at 2600 W 3500 N, about 8 minutes from City Hall. It has 18 holes, par 72, and a full driving range. The course opened in June 2005. Tee times are booked online, and the course posts its rates each season.

The Barn Golf Club in Pleasant View is about 10 minutes away, at 305 W Pleasant View Drive. Its site puts it about 2 miles east of I-15 at Exit 349. It has 18 holes, two practice greens, a driving range, and a snack bar. Ogden City runs two more public courses, El Monte and Mt Ogden.

Farr West's food sits in one spot, the Exit 349 corner, along 2700 North and 1850 West. Almost every place there is quick service. One is a local sit-down restaurant. For wider choice, such as Italian, steak, sushi, or Thai, go to Ogden, about 12 minutes southeast.

Farr West's own list is short. It has the parks, the Rec Center, Remuda Golf Course, and the Freedom Festival. It also has Smith and Edwards, the big country and surplus store on 2000 West. The shopping topic tells the store's hours. Bigger outings point to Ogden and the county.

Close to home

The Golden Spike Event Center is the Weber County fairgrounds, about 6 minutes from City Hall. It hosts races and the county fair. The Weber County Fair is usually held in early August. In 2026 it ran August 5 to 8. Entry was free before 2 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, and a rodeo ticket came with fair admission.

In Ogden and beyond

Ogden has the Union Station museums, Peery's Egyptian Theater, the Dinosaur Park, the Treehouse Museum, and the Eccles Art Center. Weber State University has two venues, the Browning Center and the Dee Events Center, about 21 minutes away.

Lagoon, the amusement park in Farmington, is about 31 minutes south. In October 2026 it was open weekends for its Frightmares season.

Farr West has no theater or gallery of its own. Its city events are outdoor and held at the parks, which the events topic tells. For stages and galleries, Ogden is about 12 minutes away.

The entertainment topic names Peery's Egyptian Theater, the Eccles Art Center, and Weber State's two venues. Add the Ogden Amphitheater downtown, home of the Ogden Twilight concerts. In 2026 they ran from June 9 to October 7. The Eccles Art Center is free to visit. The Local lists the downtown stages and the Weber State venues in detail.

The Freedom Festival is Farr West's own celebration. It is a week of rodeos, parades, music, sports, and fireworks, and it is free. In 2026 it ran from June 26 to July 4, at City Hall and Smith Family Park.

The 2026 Freedom Festival

The week opened with a kickoff and a concert at Smith Family Park. A pickleball tournament, a car show night, and a junior rodeo queen contest followed on June 27. A movie night at City Hall came on June 29. A junior rodeo and barrel race ran under the arena lights, and a park-to-park bike ride left Mountain View Park on July 3.

On the Fourth, the city listed a 5K and a flag ceremony at City Hall. The parade line-up began at 9 a.m. at 1800 North. A children's parade started at 10 a.m., and the main parade followed. In the evening the Papageorge Greek souvlaki dinner at Smith Family Park led into the fireworks show. The dinner carries the name of the city's first mayor, Jimmie Papageorge.

Other events through the year

The city holds an Easter Egg Hunt at Mountain View Park in spring, for Farr West residents. A Memorial Day flag ceremony is held at the veterans plaza in Smith Family Park. In late October, the Youth City Council runs Trunk or Treat at City Hall, and Remuda Golf Course holds a Halloween tournament. Plain City's Pumpkin Walk, next door, runs on two evenings in late October.

The city's pages list no Farr West Christmas event. Winter events are Ogden's, including its Christmas Village and light parade.

Farr West sits at the north end of Weber County, with Ogden a short drive southeast. The mountains are east, and the flat farm country and Willard Bay are west and north. The drives below are from City Hall.

Over the mountain

The Ogden Valley holds Pineview Reservoir and the three ski areas. Nordic Valley is about 25 minutes away in summer, and Snowbasin is about 35. The ski topic lists the roads and the winter detour. The outdoor recreation topic tells the Pineview pipe work.

Willard Bay and day trips

Willard Bay State Park is about 19 minutes away. The outdoor recreation topic tells its fees and hours, along with the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Antelope Island.

Hill Aerospace Museum sits outside the Roy gate of Hill Air Force Base, about 16 minutes south. Golden Spike National Historical Park is about 57 minutes northwest, and the national parks topic has the long drives. Salt Lake City, about 46 minutes south, has the airport, downtown, and the University of Utah.
