Riverdale Road Riverdale
The big-box strip that gives this small city its shape
Riverdale Road, and what it is like to live near it
Riverdale Road is the retail corridor that runs across this four and a half square mile city, carrying the state route SR-26 over two interstate freeways between Roy and Ogden. It is where the valley's big-box stores, chain restaurants and everyday services sit, which is why a small city holds nearly as many jobs as it has residents. Here is what is on it, what it is like to drive, and what it means for an address nearby.
The short answer
Riverdale Road is the retail strip that gives this small city its shape. It carries the state route number SR-26, it crosses both interstate freeways inside Riverdale's own limits, and it is lined with the big-box stores, chain restaurants and services that most of this end of the valley drives to. The city itself is only about four and a half square miles, so nearly every home here is a few minutes from the road, which is the convenience and, on the streets closest to it, the trade. If you are weighing an address in Riverdale, the useful thing to know is that the corridor is real, large and busy, and that quieter ground sits on the west side, toward the Weber River. Drive the street you are considering at the hour you would actually use it before you decide how much of the strip you want at the end of it.
What is on it
A full retail run packed onto one busy road
Riverdale Road is where the shopping is. Along it and around it you get the full run of big-box anchors, chain restaurants and everyday services, grouped mostly into two large centers. The Family Center at Riverdale sits near the point where I-15 and I-84 meet, anchored by a Super Target, and the Riverdale Shopping Center runs along the road at 300 West. Between them and the strips around them you have the groceries, home improvement, electronics, clothing and both sit-down and drive-through food that a household actually uses, which is why people across this end of Weber County drive here to shop.
Individual stores come and go, so treat any specific list as a snapshot rather than a fixture, and drive the road to see what is open. One thing worth clearing up: the enclosed Newgate Mall, near the north end of the road, has an Ogden 84405 mailing address, a ZIP Code that also covers Riverdale, but sits inside Ogden city, not Riverdale. Around here a ZIP code is a postal convenience, not a city line.

Driving it
Two freeway crossings, one busy road, and the traffic that comes with them
Riverdale Road is short, roughly four miles, but it does a lot of work. It crosses I-15 and I-84 within about a mile of each other inside the city, which is what makes the corridor so easy to reach and so busy. Off peak you can drive it end to end in about ten minutes. At weekday rush hour and on weekends it slows around the interchanges and the big centers, and that is the honest trade for having everything on one road.
The interchanges have been rebuilt in recent years. UDOT replaced the aging bridges at the 4400 South interchange in a project that ran from 2025 into 2026, and finished a full rebuild of the 5600 South interchange at the Roy end, which improved the connection between Roy, Riverdale and the drive toward Hill Air Force Base. A separate corridor-wide upgrade gives buses, freight and snowplows priority at the traffic signals along the road. Lane closures come and go with the work, so check UDOT if you are timing a specific trip.
Living near it
Convenience on one side, traffic and noise on the other
For a household, the appeal of Riverdale is that the road puts everything close. Groceries, home improvement, food, services and both freeway ramps are a few minutes from nearly every address in the city, and people who have lived without that convenience tend to value it. The cost is traffic and noise, and it is concentrated: the closer a street sits to the frontage, the more of the corridor comes with it.
Quieter ground sits on the west and south side of the city, toward the Weber River bottoms. That is where the streets calm down, and it is also lower ground, so for any specific parcel near the river the federal flood map is the thing to check before you commit. There is no substitute for driving the street you are considering at the hour you would actually use it and standing at the nearest junction for a few minutes.
One practical thing about a city this small and this commercial: a few everyday amenities live in the neighboring cities rather than in Riverdale itself. Riverdale has no municipal swimming pool, so the city sends residents to the Roy Aquatic Center for its summer swim nights. It has no public library branch of its own; the nearest are the Pleasant Valley Branch on Adams Avenue and the Southwest Branch in Roy. And it has no dedicated dog park, the closest being at South Ogden's Club Heights Park. None of that is far, but it is worth knowing before you assume a small city keeps everything inside its own limits.
A block off, or across town
What an address near the strip gives you, and what a quieter street trades for it
Two honest versions of a Riverdale address. Neither is wrong; they suit different priorities.
| What it is like | A block off Riverdale Road | The west side, toward the river |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday errands | Groceries, big box and food within a couple of minutes | A five to ten minute drive back to the strip |
| Traffic and noise | Steady, and busy at rush hour and on weekends | Quieter streets with less through traffic |
| Freeway access | Either interchange in a couple of minutes | Still close, a few minutes more |
| The ground | Flat frontage along an older commercial edge | Lower ground near the Weber River; check the flood map |
The base next door
Riverdale runs up against Hill's northern edge, but the base itself is a Davis County story
Riverdale sits against the northern edge of Hill Air Force Base and appears on the base's own list of bordering cities. Day to day that mostly means aircraft overhead and, for anyone with a reason to be on base, a short drive to a gate. No base gate is inside Riverdale; the nearest is the North Gate, which the base also calls the Roy Gate, at I-15 exit 338 in Roy.
If you are weighing a specific address, the question that actually matters, aircraft noise and the flight overlay, is answered by the Riverdale City planning department, which holds the maps, rather than by the base. The base itself, its gates, hours and museum, is covered in the Hill Air Force Base guide, and the way the two interstates and the base edge stack up inside this small city is the subject of the crossroads and the base.

Quick answers
Riverdale Road, answered
Riverdale Road is the retail corridor that runs east and west across Riverdale, carrying the state route number SR-26 between Roy and Ogden and crossing both I-15 and I-84 inside the city. It is where most of the city's shopping, restaurants and services sit, and the city calls it one of the busiest roads in northern Utah.
A full run of big-box anchors and chain restaurants, grouped around two large shopping centers: The Family Center at Riverdale, anchored by a Super Target near the I-15 and I-84 junction, and the Riverdale Shopping Center at 300 West. Stores turn over often, so treat any list as a snapshot and drive the road to see what is open now.
No, it is in Ogden. The mall on Wall Avenue near the north end of Riverdale Road has an Ogden, UT 84405 mailing address, a ZIP Code that also covers Riverdale, but the property itself sits inside Ogden city. Riverdale shares that ZIP with Ogden, South Ogden and Washington Terrace, so a mailing address is not a reliable guide to which city you are in.
SR-26. The state route runs about four miles from SR-126 in Roy east to US-89, Washington Boulevard, in Ogden, entirely within Weber County, and it crosses I-15 and I-84 in quick succession inside Riverdale.
It is one of the busiest roads in northern Utah, and it is heaviest at weekday rush hour and on weekends. Off peak you can drive it end to end in about ten minutes. Because Riverdale is only about four and a half square miles, almost every home in the city is a few minutes from it, so the honest test is to drive the specific street you are considering at the hour you would actually use it.
Convenient and busy in equal measure. Everyday shopping, food, services and both freeway interchanges are minutes from nearly every Riverdale address, which is the draw. The trade is traffic and noise, and it falls hardest on the streets closest to the frontage. Quieter ground sits on the west side of the city, toward the Weber River bottoms.
Geography. Riverdale packs a state route and two interstate freeway crossings into about four and a half square miles with the Weber River along one edge, so it catches an unusual amount of through traffic for its size, and the shopping follows it. The state's job count puts roughly 8,700 jobs in a city of about 9,000 residents, which makes Riverdale one of Weber County's larger job centers on one of its smaller populations.
Yes. Riverdale sits against the base's northern edge and is on the base's own list of bordering cities, but no base gate is in Riverdale; the nearest is the North, or Roy, Gate at I-15 exit 338 in Roy. For what living near the base means for a specific address, such as aircraft noise, the Riverdale City planning department holds the overlay maps.
The corridor sees regular work. UDOT rebuilt the aging bridges at the 4400 South interchange in a project that ran from 2025 into 2026 and finished a full rebuild of the 5600 South interchange at the Roy end. A corridor-wide upgrade gives buses, freight and snowplows priority at the signals. For current lane closures, check UDOT before a trip.
One road, most of the shopping, and a small city built around it
Riverdale Road is the deciding factor in most Riverdale decisions, and the useful work is simple: drive the specific street you are considering at the hour you would use it, see how close the frontage really is, and check the flood map if you are near the river.
