Southern Utah, lived in.
Five counties from the warm St. George desert to the 10,000-foot rim at Cedar Breaks, with Zion and Bryce Canyon inside the region and a mile-high college town in the middle of it. This is the corner of the state I live in, so The Local starts here.
The lay of the land
One region, two climates.
Southern Utah is really two worlds stacked by elevation. Down low, Washington County: St. George and its neighbors in the warm desert, where winter is the reward and summer is something you plan around. A mile up, Iron County: Cedar City and Parowan under the high plateaus, where all four seasons show up and the ski hill is half an hour from the driveway.
East of both, the canyon counties. Kane County runs from Kanab through the Grand Staircase country. Garfield County holds Bryce Canyon, Panguitch, and Boulder Mountain. Beaver County sits quiet in the north with its own peaks and hot springs country. Thread them together with I-15 and Highway 89 and you can cross from red sand to alpine meadow in an afternoon.
That elevation spread is the whole trick to living here. When the desert cooks in July, the high country is in wildflowers. When the mountains close down in January, the desert is at its best. Locals do not wait for a season; they drive to it.

The region, answered.
Zion and Bryce Canyon are both inside the region. Zion's quieter Kolob Canyons entrance sits just off I-15 south of Cedar City, and Cedar Breaks National Monument holds the high ground above 10,000 feet between them.
About 3,000 feet. St. George sits under 3,000 feet with a warm desert climate and mild winters. Cedar City sits near 5,800 feet with four real seasons, cooler summers, and winter snow that comes and goes. They are less than an hour apart on I-15, which is why locals treat the two climates as a feature.
It depends on your elevation. Spring and fall are prime everywhere. Summer is hot in the St. George desert and beautiful in the high country around Cedar City and Brian Head. Winter is mild down low and a ski season up high, so something is always in season.
