What an RV garage means in Hurricane.

This is the Hurricane signature search, and it makes sense once you see the place. Sand Hollow State Park is the most-visited state park in Utah, about fifteen minutes south, with a warm reservoir, red sand dunes, and Sand Mountain's OHV terrain. Quail Creek is about ten minutes the other way. The result is a town full of motorhomes, boats, toy haulers, and side-by-sides, and a strong builder answer to the question of where to keep them: the enclosed RV garage. The numbers are what matter, and they are exactly what a listing photo will not tell you. A standard garage door is around seven feet. A motorhome or a fifth wheel often needs a door in the twelve-to-fourteen-foot range and a bay thirty-five to fifty feet deep, sometimes more. So the three measurements I always pull are door height, door width, and bay depth, against the real dimensions of your rig with the antennas and the air conditioners on top. A garage marketed as an RV bay that only clears a tall truck is a great toy garage but will not hold the motorhome you are picturing.

Then there are the hookups, which separate a tall empty box from a working RV garage. The good ones carry a dedicated power outlet sized for the rig, sometimes a sewer dump or a cleanout so you can service the motorhome at home, water nearby, and the ceiling height and floor drains to wash it down inside. None of that is guaranteed just because the bay is big, so verify each one. A drive-through bay with a door at each end is the premium version, because you never have to back the rig in.

Where do they concentrate? Dixie Springs, one of the communities closest to the reservoir, is known for single-level custom homes with RV garages, and the south-side new builds and the bench customs carry them too. What makes a real RV garage here

  • Door height and width: a motorhome or fifth wheel often needs a door in the twelve-to-fourteen-foot range, well past a standard seven-foot garage door. Measure your rig with the rooftop units before you trust a listing.

  • Bay depth: a true RV bay runs thirty-five to fifty feet deep or more, enough to close the door behind the whole rig. A tall door on a shallow bay only holds a truck, not the motorhome.

  • Power and sewer hookups: the working ones carry a dedicated outlet sized for the rig and sometimes a sewer dump or cleanout to service it at home. Confirm each one rather than assuming a big bay has them.

  • Drive-through is premium: a door at each end lets you pull the rig straight through instead of backing it in. The most convenient layout, and the one to ask about by name.

Enclosed RV garages cluster where buyers came for the lake and the dunes and where lots are big enough to add fifty feet of depth to the footprint. Here is where the real ones concentrate in Hurricane.

Dixie Springs

One of the communities closest to Sand Hollow Reservoir, built largely as single-level custom homes on bigger lots, and the name most associated with RV garages in Hurricane. If you are searching for a true enclosed RV bay, this is often the first place it points.

South-side new construction

Production and custom builders along the Sand Hollow corridor and the south side offer RV-garage floor plans, and on a new build you can sometimes spec the door height and bay depth before the slab is poured. Ask the builder for the real clear dimensions, not just the marketing name.

The benches and ridges

Bench and ridge communities put larger custom homes on view lots, and the bigger homes up here sometimes carry a deep RV bay alongside the red-rock and Pine Valley Mountain views. The lot has to be big enough to take the added depth, so it tends to be the larger parcels.

Acreage and larger parcels

Lots three-quarters of an acre and up, on the north bench and the rural edges, give the room for a detached RV garage or shop in addition to the house. Many sit on private well and septic, so verify the utilities along with the bay.

Custom homes near the reservoir

The custom homes built for the lake-and-toys buyer, on the lake-adjacent south side, are where drive-through bays and full hookups show up most. These are the premium version of this search and a smaller slice of the market.

Larger-lot streets generally

Anywhere the lot is deep enough to add an RV bay without crowding the house, an enclosed garage can appear, including selected larger lots out toward Quail Creek and Harrisburg. Each one is individual, so confirm the actual door and depth on the home you like.

Before you tour: what to actually verify

Door height and width: measure your rig with the rooftop air conditioners and antennas, then confirm the door clears it. This is the one that disqualifies the most bays, so check it first.

Bay depth and the closed door: bring your rig's length and confirm it fits with the door fully shut, not hanging out the back. A tall door on a shallow bay is a truck garage, not an RV garage.

Power for the rig: ask whether there is a dedicated outlet sized for the motorhome, not just a standard plug. Confirm the panel can carry it if it is not already wired.

Sewer dump and water: if you want to service the rig at home, check for a sewer dump or cleanout and a water source near the bay. Useful, and not guaranteed by a big door.

Drive-through vs. back-in: look for a door at each end. A drive-through bay saves you backing a long rig in every time, and it is worth asking about by name.

Floor, drainage, and ceiling: a working RV garage often has floor drains to wash the rig inside and the ceiling height for rooftop access. Check the slope, the drains, and the headroom in person.
